Langage Crypté - Notre Dame de ParisSignage - Competition2026
Mockup
Designed for the ‘Decorating the Notre-Dame Construction Site Hoardings’ competition (City of Paris / CAUE), this project (carried out in collaboration with Juliette Mottier and Lilou Gaxieu) offers a visual exploration of the Crypt and archaeology. A system of 50 pictograms, serving as an ‘archaeological grammar’, invites the public to see things through the eyes of an archaeologist. Integrated into the text and as a frieze, these playful symbols (combined with a symbolic palette and a composition inspired by the crypt’s floor plan) transform reading into an active experience of excavation and the reconstruction of meaning.
The project will be on display from summer 2026 to January 2027.
Pictograms designed using the Tomorrw Regular typefaceThe pictograms incorporate elements of typographic characters and are all the same height to create a greater sense of unity.
